We offer a variety of drum and percussion lessons, which include but are not limited to drum set, symphonic percussion, mallet instruments, and Afro-Caribbean drums. Students who take drum lessons with us learn to play on a drum kit. Most students are ready for drums around age 8 due to their size limitations of reaching the foot pedals and high hats. Our lessons focus on the ability to identify rhythm and the use of proper technique such as stick control, rudiments, and four-way drum set coordination. We have many performance opportunities throughout the year. We also offer a Rock Camp during the summer for students interested in learning to play within a small group of mixed instruments.
And, if you can’t wait until the summer we also have a Rock Band class for ages 10 and up. You pick the people, you pick the songs, and we make the rest happen. Professional coaches and recording sessions are included. Concert opportunities are presented year round for bands to show off their awesome skills. Sign up today. Live the dream. Be a Rock Star!
All of our drums and percussion teachers are highly qualified, university trained instructors. We pride ourselves in our ability to match each student with a teacher of appropriate age, interests, and abilities. Having a good student-teacher match allows for optimal learning conditions in a fun, comfortable environment. Many of our teachers actively perform in the Capital District and have original music that can be found on iTunes. At Performance School of the Arts, we believe in setting a good example, so we strive to connect students with teachers that will inspire them and motivate them to always be their best.
Drums and Percussion lessons are provided as 30 minute, 45 minute, or full hour sessions. Lesson duration varies depending upon the student’s age, ability, and the amount of material they are capable of practicing every week. For advanced students, longer sessions are necessary. We offer many opportunities for students to perform in outside competitions and music festivals in addition to our regular in-house recitals.
