  March 2012 Newsletter

Congratulations to all the students who performed at piano NYSSMA this year. We would especially like to congratulate Yannai Arazi, Amber McKay, and Tim Saia for passing level six with high scores. Way to go, Performers!

Celtic Music Jam

We are pleased to announce that this year’s annual Celtic Music Jam will be held on Sunday, March 18th at 6:00 pm. This is a family event, also open to friends. A short presentation and demo of a variety of Irish instruments will be provided, followed by hands on opportunity to try out the instruments. Families get to play in a live Celtic jam session to conclude the evening.

This year, we are honored to have special guests Hilary Schrauf, Eric Everson, and Kara Doyle performing our Celtic instrument demos, as well as leading us in our jam session. They each come from extensive performance backgrounds and can be heard regularly around the Northeast. This is an event worth coming out to even if you just wish to sit back and enjoy listening to the music.

In addition to learning about and sampling Irish fiddle, penny whistle, guitar, boughran, hammer dulcimer, and the Celtic harp, families will also be introduced to some new and exciting instruments. Thanks to our special guests, we will also have an Irish bouzouki and the beautiful sounds of the uilleann pipes.

2012  Spring Recital Series

This year’s spring recitals will take place on the last two weekends of April. Sign up dates are April 20, 21, 27, and 28. All students are encouraged to participate. Space is limited for each recital, and recitals do tend to fill up quickly. So please sign up at the front desk as soon as possible. We prefer to keep recitals short so we can feature each performer in a special way. There will also be a brief reception after each recital.

New Dance Programs

We recently started offering additional dance classes for ballet, hip-hop, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern and step as well as two new dance-fitness programs, Zumba (for adults and teens) and Zumbatomic (for kids). Check next month’s newsletter or ask at the front desk for demo dates to try a class for free. Our dance classes are taught by university trained teachers and certified Zumba instructors.
