Q&A
Q: Do we need to have a piano at home to take lessons?
A: Having a student start out on a piano is always ideal; however a fully weighted key keyboard is acceptable to start out. Keyboards need to have regulation sized keys and pedals if possible. We have roll out keyboards you can rent from us at no cost for up to the first 3 months with a refundable security deposit. We also offer a rent to own program on pianos in the showroom located in the front of our school. You can get more info on this program by clicking here.
Q: Do we need a drum set to take drum lessons?
A: It is not necessary to have a full drum set to take lessons. Students can practice on drum pads to get started.
Q: I don’t play an instrument, how can I help my child with their practicing?
A: Parents are able and are encouraged to sit it on their child’s lessons. This will give you an idea of basic technique, posture, and how songs sound to help re-enforce your child at home with practicing. You can also make sure and encourage that the student is practicing each of their pieces or exercises a set number of times a day.
Q: How long will it take my child to learn to play an instrument?
A: Everyone learns at a different pace. Generally a basic understanding of an instrument can be learned within several months. However most students choose to take lessons on a long term basis because they find lessons rewarding, enjoyable, and want to reach a high level of excellence and achievement.
Q: How often do we need to come to lessons?
A: For everyone, once a week, every week is required. Weekly lessons give students enough time in between to get repetition in practicing to make improvements to their pieces without letting too much time go by to let bad habits form.
