CM School of Fine Arts is pleased to offer private and group piano lessons for students of all ages and abilities. We provide piano lessons for completely new beginners through collegiate-level piano. We also offer college preparatory classes, which include music theory and music history for high school students. Our school features programs for aspiring pianists who wish to learn about improvisation and composition. All of our piano lessons are customized by style preference, ranging from classical to country, pop, rock, jazz, and funk. Piano lesson programs are structured to enable students to reach their own personal goals for playing.

On average, most students are ready to start private piano lessons at age 5. Before the age of 5, we recommend that students take either our group "Preschool Music Program" or private "Pre-Piano Lessons" with us. In these settings, young students will develop and enhance the skills necessary to start private instruction. Our lesson programs for young beginners are designed to keep students engaged and having fun while learning the basics about playing piano. We use a variety of fun activities ranging from singing, dancing, coloring, and of course piano playing mixed in with rhythm games and discovering new musical instruments along the way. We also offer Intro to Piano for ages 6 and up, which is a group piano class for students who enjoy working and interacting with others. The social interaction keeps them motivated in a fun, friendly environment.

All of our teachers are highly qualified, university trained instructors. We pride ourselves in our ability to match each student with a teacher of appropriate age, interests, and abilities. Having a good student-teacher match allows for optimal learning conditions in a fun, comfortable environment. Many of our teachers actively perform in the Capital District and have original music that can be found on iTunes. At CM School of Fine Arts, we believe in setting a good example, so we strive to connect students with teachers that will inspire them and motivate them to always be their best.

Piano lessons are provided as 30 minute, 45 minute, or full hour sessions. Lesson duration varies depending upon the student’s age, ability, and the amount of material they are capable of practicing every week. For advanced students, longer sessions are necessary. We offer many opportunities for students to perform in outside competitions and music festivals in addition to our regular in-house recitals.
It is important for students to have an appropriate instrument to practice on. A good instrument allows students to practice and play their best. Not having a good instrument can actually hold back a student in their development while discouraging creativity and motivation levels to practice.
